Our Stories.
Replenish and Reforestation – Project 166
Since the industrial revolution, 375 billion tons of carbon has been emitted into our atmosphere and repairing this damage is no small feat. Environmental scientists estimate that it will take the planting of 1.3 trillion trees to sequester the earth’s legacy carbon. This seemingly impossible task becomes manageable upon the realisation that all it takes is for every person on earth to plant 166 trees. As part of CVM’s Replenish & Reforestation strategy, our non-for-profit ‘Project 166’ was formed in 2021. Project 166 acquired 1,200 acres of over-farmed and arid land in Oman Ama, QLD, with the goal of planting 166,000 trees as part of a reforestation and carbon sequestration initiative. CVM is a proud supporter and active participant in the project, contributing to its ongoing activities and sustainability efforts. The Project also offers an invaluable education and inspiration for our staff through talks, sharing resources and university engagement and partnerships.

Creating Inclusive and Accessible Aquatic Experiences
Inclusive design and accessibility are becoming central priorities in the aquatic and recreation sector.
City Venue Management continues to work alongside local government partners to ensure aquatic centres are welcoming and accessible for people of all abilities.
Recent facility upgrades at many of our facilities have introduced features such as:
- accessible changing facilities
- aquatic wheelchair access
- hoists for assisted pool entry
- digital tools that allow visitors to understand venue accessibility before arriving.
These initiatives help remove barriers to participation and ensure that aquatic facilities remain inclusive spaces for the entire community.
By prioritising accessibility and inclusive design, City Venue Management reinforces its commitment to creating experiences that truly delight and engage all visitors.
Major Upgrade at Kawana Aquatic Centre Enhances Community Access
The recent completion of stage two upgrades at Kawana Aquatic Centre marks a significant milestone for one of the Sunshine Coast’s busiest aquatic facilities.
Operated by City Venue Management, the centre has undergone a multimillion-dollar redevelopment that includes new amenities, expanded outdoor spaces, and enhanced accessibility features.
The upgrade forms part of Sunshine Coast Council’s $14 million investment to improve community sporting infrastructure and meet the growing demand for aquatic facilities across the region.
New facilities include:
- expanded public amenities
- additional car parking
- a new café and social spaces
- improved accessibility infrastructure including a Changing Places facility.
The improvements allow the centre to support more than 200,000 visitors annually, while expanding opportunities for learn-to-swim programs, competitive training and community recreation.
For City Venue Management, the redevelopment reflects a shared vision with local government partners to deliver modern aquatic facilities that support community wellbeing and sporting excellence.
Solar Roll-Out Scheme.
City Venue Management continues to explore innovative ways to improve sustainability across its aquatic and leisure facilities, including the gradual rollout of solar energy solutions at selected venues.
Aquatic centres are energy-intensive facilities by nature. Heating pools, running filtration systems, and maintaining comfortable environments for visitors year-round places significant and consistent demand on energy infrastructure. Integrating renewable energy solutions such as solar power offers a meaningful opportunity to reduce that consumption while supporting long-term environmental goals.
Through collaboration with facility owners and local government partners, City Venue Management is supporting initiatives to incorporate solar infrastructure into aquatic centre operations where feasible. The rollout spans nine facilities across the region, encompassing a combined solar capacity of approximately 677 kilowatts.
Each site has been assessed individually, with system sizes tailored to the scale and energy profile of the facility. Installations range from smaller community pools through to major multi-use aquatic and health club complexes. Where conditions allow, systems are designed to maximise self-consumption, meaning the energy generated onsite is used directly by the facility rather than exported to the grid.
Collectively, the installed systems are projected to generate over 900,000 kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, with an estimated lifetime carbon saving of more than 15,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent across the portfolio. These figures reflect the scale of impact that a coordinated, multi-site approach to renewable energy can deliver.
Two additional facilities are currently progressing through final stages, with solar integration pending. Once operational, these sites will further strengthen the organisation’s renewable energy footprint.
While each facility presents unique infrastructure considerations, City Venue Management continues to assess opportunities to integrate renewable energy solutions as part of its broader sustainability strategy. By embracing environmentally responsible technologies and working collaboratively with site owners and partners, the organisation is working to ensure that aquatic and leisure facilities remain both valued community assets and environmentally conscious operations for the long term.
ESG Practices
Environment
As an organisation we believe that our reason for being has a tremendous positive impact to the people and communities that we serve. We help create safer, more fulfilled communities through our core focus of learn-to-swim classes, operating community leisure venues, and being a major employer throughout Southeast Queensland. Our environmental journey over the past few years has laid a strong foundation, driven by passionate teams and a commitment to doing better. However, we recognise that much of our current activity is tied to legacy initiatives—and now is the time to evolve. These activities across our operational footprint inherently have an impact to the planet’s sustainability. As an organisation, we are committed to offset any negative impact and protect the planet and deliver a positive environmental legacy for future generations as we operate and grow our business. Building on what we’ve learned, we are entering a new phase: one that is intentional, data-informed, and aligned with our long-term vision for environmental leadership. As part of our sustainability journey, along with the support of our senior leadership team, industry experts, and environmentalists, our team has continued in 2023 – 2022 working on a coordinated & structured framework around four key focus areas to drive our sustainability goals to align with our objectives of being Net Zero by 2040. Understanding our current carbon footprint & providing the road map to ultimately achieve net zero has been an important factor this year for City Venue Management.
We recently engaged with a sustainability intelligence organisation to calculate our complete climate footprint, including Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP). Whilst this process is ongoing, the benefit to execute our net zero plan by 2040 becomes more achievable with quantifiable data driving our decision making.

Social
While we aim to reduce our environmental impact, we strive to be a positive force within our local region. In fact, our whole business serves society. We’re helping create safer, more fulfilled communities through our venues, and we’re a major employer throughout South East Queensland — providing jobs for hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds.
Corporate Governance
We constantly strive to be an ethical, responsible organisation. Which is why corporate governance is more than a guide — it’s woven into the very fabric of our business. Our values, behaviours and beliefs come from the very top, and our senior management lead by example. We’ve also embraced the value of an exceptional advisory board, made up of experts from both our industry and the wider business community. With their support, we can focus on moving in the right direction, in the right way.
Our Partners.
Providing vital community hubs together.
We take great pride in the solid and cooperative partnerships we have established with our asset partners throughout the years. Looking ahead, we are excited about the prospect of forming many more of these valuable connections in the future

Social Inclusion
CREATING POSITIVE SOCIAL RETURNS THROUGH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We are dedicated to delivering measurable social, health, and economic benefits to the communities we serve. With 40+ aquatic venues across Southeast Queensland and over 4.1 million annual visits, our mission extends beyond facility management—we create vibrant, healthy, and connected communities.
Nationally, public aquatic facilities and swim schools generate more than $9 billion in annual benefits, equating to $27 per visit. At CVM, this impact translates into an estimated $111.2 million in combined economic, health, and social value each year, or $27.58 for every person who walks through our doors. This outcome reflects the power of aquatic centres to provide inclusive, safe, and community-focused spaces that deliver tangible returns. From an economic perspective, our venues contribute: $34.2 MILLION annually through local employment, workforce development, vocational training, and venue-driven commerce. Health benefits amount to: $30.6 MILLION with facilities improving physical and mental wellbeing, reducing healthcare costs, and encouraging lifelong aquatic safety skills that reduce drowning risks. Social impact accounts for: $46.5 MILLION generated through inclusive programs, enhanced community safety, opportunities for belonging, and stronger social capital. CVM’s people-first approach ensures our venues are more than just places to swim, they are hubs of growth, connection, and inclusion. By uplifting every member of the community, we reduce absenteeism, support healthy lifestyles, foster resilience, and create meaningful engagement. Our commitment to continuous improvement and accountability drives us to maximise social returns and build healthier, more connected communities for the future.
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY ENHANCING THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
We go beyond basic accessibility to create environments where individuals with disabilities can thrive. Our facilities feature ramps, aquatic wheelchairs, hoists, and specially tailored changing rooms at locations like Miami, Colmslie, and Parkinson. We actively collaborate with disability support services and caregivers, inviting groups to participate in aquatic movement activities. Our comprehensive swimming lesson programs, available in one-on-one, small group, or integrated settings, are designed to empower people with disabilities, fostering independence and improving their quality of life.
PROMOTING RECOVERY & REHABILITATION
Our heated pools are ideal for physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and general recovery programs. The therapeutic benefits of warm water make our venues a preferred choice for many physiotherapists and their clients. With plans to broaden our offerings, we aim to support more individuals on their journey to recovery.
SUPPORTING THE ELDERLY
Our venues serve as gathering places for the elderly, particularly those participating in water walking groups. These sessions offer much more than exercise; they provide valuable social interaction and a supportive community. The buoyancy of water offers a gentle means of exercise, crucial for those dealing with joint pains or mobility issues, enhancing their physical health and social well-being.
ADVANCING WATER SAFETY EDUCATION
Understanding the critical importance of water safety, especially for children, we have made aquatic safety education a cornerstone of our mission. By extending our educational programs to childcare centres and schools, we actively work to prevent drowning incidents and promote safety. Our ongoing commitment to clear communication and signage at our venues underscores our dedication to safeguarding our communities.
CONTRIBUTING TO GENERAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Recognising the impact of health and fitness on reducing the burden on Australia’s medical system, we view our role in providing well-maintained aquatic and leisure facilities as a fundamental responsibility. Our efforts aim to foster a healthier community, thereby contributing to the overall reduction of healthcare costs and creating a more vibrant society.
EMPOWERING LOCAL COMMUNITIES
We create employment pathways for young people and diverse communities through school-based traineeships and partnerships like Aqua English. By providing real-world experience, qualifications, and tailored support, we build skills, confidence, and inclusion – empowering individuals while ensuring our workforce reflects community diversity and develops the next generation of leaders.
Low Impact Products
City Venue Management is committed to reducing environmental impact across its aquatic and leisure facilities by introducing low-impact products and sustainable operational practices.
Across the aquatic industry, facilities consume significant volumes of materials each day — from food and beverage packaging to cleaning supplies, pool chemicals, and maintenance products. Recognising the environmental footprint of these high-volume materials, City Venue Management has implemented a strategic initiative to identify more sustainable alternatives across its venues.
Working closely with suppliers and procurement partners, the organisation has begun transitioning to products and materials that reduce waste and environmental impact. Key initiatives include the adoption of sustainable packaging solutions, reducing non-recyclable materials within supply chains, and prioritising biodegradable alternatives wherever operationally possible.
These changes span multiple operational areas, including café and retail packaging, cleaning materials used within aquatic environments, and general consumables used across venues.
In addition, City Venue Management has begun transitioning elements of its operational vehicle fleet to hybrid engines, helping to reduce emissions associated with daily facility operations and logistics.
While each individual change may appear small, collectively these initiatives contribute to a meaningful reduction in the organisation’s carbon footprint.
By continuously reviewing operational materials and collaborating with suppliers to improve sustainability outcomes, City Venue Management aims to set a positive example for environmentally responsible aquatic facility management.
